The Daily Practice of Choosing Peace

Peace is often imagined as a destination we’ll reach once life settles down, but in reality, it’s a choice available to us right now.

Choosing peace does not mean avoiding difficulty or pretending that everything is fine. It means meeting life as it is, with intention rather than reactivity. It is a daily practice that begins with awareness.

Our days are typically shaped by habits, responsibilities and beliefs. We move from one task to the next, responding to demands, distractions, and expectations without pausing to consider how we want to live and show up.

The practice of choosing peace begins with a pause. A moment to notice where our energy and attention are being spent. This noticing creates space, and in this space we become aware that we have an opportunity.

This might look like:

  • Taking a breath before responding
  • Pausing instead of rushing in
  • Letting go of ingrained views and opinions
  • Experiencing something without labeling it
  • Responding with curiosity instead of judgment

These choices may seem small, but practiced over time they impact our lives in significant and meaningful ways, creating a quieter, steadier way of moving through the world.

Intentional journaling offers a simple and powerful way to support this process.

Journaling does not require eloquence. It only asks for honesty. A few mindful moments each day can help us recognize patterns, calm our inner dialogue, reconnect with our values and intentions, and return to ourselves. In this way, it becomes less about recording our days and more about being intentional about how we live them.

Choosing peace does not mean disengaging from life. It means being present while moving through it. It allows us to live with clarity rather than overwhelm, and thoughtfulness rather than urgency. There will be days when it feels impossible and days when it flows naturally. Both experiences are part of the practice. What matters is the willingness to return and to choose again.

If you want to experience more peace in your daily life, begin where you are. Even a few quiet moments are enough. Set aside some time at the start of the day with the Choosing Peace journal. Ask yourself one honest question: What would choosing peace look like today? Make your entry, set your intention, and later reflect on your experience. Over time, the process builds upon itself, becoming a new and nourishing habit, until peace itself becomes the practice.

Why December is the Perfect Time to Begin (or Renew) Your Journaling Practice

As the year draws to a close, we naturally turn inward, reflecting on the months behind us and the year ahead. The world hums once again with holiday activities that demand our time and frequently evoke emotional highs and lows. This makes December an ideal time to begin or renew a journaling practice.

Journaling during this season can help us:

  • Reflect on growth, celebrate victories and reflect on the lessons and the moments that have shaped us.
  • Release what no longer serves, such as the beliefs, habits, stories, and thought patterns we’ve outgrown.
  • Reset our intentions to focus on peace, creativity, love, and healing in the coming year.

Putting pen to paper during the month of December helps us slow down with intention, breathe, and reconnect to our our goals and purpose.

Some of my favorite journals to work with during this season are:

One Small Thing: A journal designed to help you choose one small action every day that can make a big difference in the world around you.

The Little Journal of Outrageous Possibilities: Take one brave action every day. It could be large or small–whatever stretches you. Journal about your experiences and the confidence and resilience you build as you step up and out of your comfort zone.

Freedom Rising: A prayer journal designed to help you discover your purpose and the truth of who you are through a daily practice of asking three questions.

Take a look at the journals on offer, select one that speaks to you, and begin your practice as you close out 2025 and prepare for 2026. Every day is an opportunity to change our lives for the better.

A Season for Reflection: Choosing Your Journal for Autumn 🍂✨

Autumn invites us to slow down and enjoy life’s quieter moments. It’s a great time to begin an intentional journaling practice.

October is an ideal time to reflect on your growth and set plans in place for the year ahead. You might find comfort in writing by candlelight with a warm drink nearby, or inspiration in using your pages to dream about possibilities with hope and clarity. You might decide that this is the time to overcome anxious thought patters, or make some positive changes, large or small, that bring you closer to the life you want to create.

Whichever journaling practice you choose, let it be a steady companion through this season of reflection, reminding you that your inner world deserves as much care as your outer world.
